What measures can you take during COVID-19?
We have had almost 2 months of difficulty with the Coronavirus impacting the whole world as we know it. There are cyber security measures we can all take, from a cyber security standpoint, to help protect ourselves individually and protect our business from falling victim.
Cyber Security Measure 1: 2 Factor Authentication
When you are working from home you have multiple tools and websites at your disposal. Most, if not all, will require logging in of some sort and most of them will have 2 factor authentication. This is a must for everyone in this day and age. Requiring a second authentication will ensure that even if your login gets breached, your information won’t be affected. You can use tools like Microsoft Authenticator which will make you enter a 6 digit pin every time you login. You can also use other tools that will send you a push notification.
Cyber Security Measure 2: Password Management
If you use the same password in more than one place you are increasing the threat to yourself. If one password gets breached, then anywhere that password is being used is also under threat. You can use password managers, like LastPass, that will save all your passwords in one spot. It will also create secure passwords for you to use for your needs, and all you need to know is one password. Secure passwords should be more that 12 characters, including special characters, numbers, and capitals.
Cyber Security Measure 3: Vigilance
Now you are working at home it is that much more important to not trust. Do not trust emails and don’t trust links. Ensure that you check and double check everything for its security. Cyber security attacks have risen drastically over the last couple of months, and that’s because hackers are targeting people working from home hoping they are an easy target. Do not become that easy target.
